We stayed in Sumter with M and family. We were lucky to get to visit the Borough again (the family plantation), where we stayed in past years when visiting. I am grateful for this opportunity for the girls, in that they were young the last time we were there. Now they have better memories and enjoyed themselves a great deal. And I can not tell you how much I enjoy being both with M and visiting her family homes.
New year's Eve was spent with L, her husband, and their 4 children. A truly lovely family. They own a house near Sumter that they do not live in - a small affair (not!!). There were 13 people and Claire (yes, she did make the journey and what a wonderful little traveller she turned out to be!) and we never bumped into each other or had to wait for a restroom! It was a wonderful way to ring in the New Year.
For whatever reason, B did not take many pictures this trip. it might have to do with the fact that she respects that these are real homes that people live in. But M got a few. Here is one of the girls and I on New Year's Eve. The food was as excellent as the company!

Sounds like such a nice trip. I need more pics, any of the outside of the old houses. What is frying up in that big pot?
I am not sure we have any px of the outsides! Honestly, all the hosues we visited are so large I am not sure you could really get a good feel althoguh the facades are killer. The pot is corn chowder that I made (although M planned it and we shopped together for the ingredients). It was vegetarian (which it generally is normally) and delicious.
Now, L made something called oyster pie with oyster crackers, oysters and i think a lot of butter layered in a bread pan. As you can well guess, none of us tried it. m was also enjoying her family's New Year's tradition of both egg salad and caviar.
