OK. After a week of not weaving much (but thinking about weaving) I have a prototype "big bag" done. I have two friends who are going to have babies soon and I thought it would be funny to make diaper bags out of the recycled bag fabric. So I looked up sizes and came up with this: 16.5" wide, 15" high and 7" deep (bottom and sides). Now I am actually weaving side panels and sewing them onto the front/back/bottom piece. There is a panel sewed to the outside creating 3 pockets (top left) and one on the inside with 2 pockets (weird interior shot). The bottom needs to be reinforced with more fabric or straps or something. And more panels can be added for more pockets. We are going to Philly this weekend for the big Flower Show and I think I will use this as a suitcase (21st century version of the carpet bag!). It may be the right size for that but it may be too big for a diaper bag. I may have to scale back some.

Softball Mom could use a big bag to carry lots of stuff in.

OK, OK, I can take a hint....forget your pregnant friends and their needs...they can just keep those rugrats inside longer....actually, I have enough warp on to do 4-5 bags and 1 is done. Might send it to softball mom but it is going to Philly first! Would make great beach bags and mom suggested beach mats (won;t fall apart like the reed ones but not sure how badly a wet, lotioned body will stick to them (mom can test those out).

Well, I have my big bag packed for Philly and it seems to be holding up well. There are 9.5 lbs of stuff in it (including toiletries and shoes) and it does not seem to be sagging or straining.

I don't know yet about the beach thang, but today, I looked down at my bag and about 3/4 of a ball point pen was poking through. I just jammed it back, and tugged and pulled, and the hole just disappeared. The bags are self sealing, just like Goodyear!

Yes, Yes they are. Mackenzie in SC is using her's for a knitting bag and loves that the needles poke out instead of breaking....back from Philly and everyone tired.....
