Zoeweaves

Zoe asked if she could weave herself a blanket for college. Of course, since she asked at the height of play season, the answer was "Of course you can but not now!!".

But now has arrived. With mild winter, we did not have any snow days and the girls are getting their first full spring break in years. Here, that means the Wed, Thurs, Fri before Easter and the Mon and Tues after.

Zoe picked colors and how she was going to weave and I figured out how much yarn we would need and got it ordered. It makes me go into a break down to throw a measily 4 yard warp on the loom (which is all we need for her project) so I upped it to 10 yards. That means wrangling a little over 8 miles of yarn for the warp alone. It also means I get to weave off the rest of her design later (which is why there are 6 yards more than she needs!!)

Zoe spent Tues afternoon and Wed morning winding cones and beamed the warp on Wed. Yes, lots of terms you don't know. Sorry. I could explain but you wouldn't care! And she started threading the heddles last night.

Here are the px:

Here is Zoe winding on the warp, 42 threads and 10 yards at a time.
The 42 cones which represent 6 of the 7 colors she chose and a close up of those colors. She has a 7th color for weaving with.
Zoe working on the threading process. There are 1440 threads to deal with (my dishtowels are between 450 and 550, so this is ambitious!!). She has 500 done at this point.
She should be weaving later today or more likely tomorrow, as life has a way of getting in the way of threading! We also need to get her prom dress altered and since it is break, she feels the need to have a little fun as well! She should easily finish her blanket before returning to school on Wed. Then I can weave again....yeah...
