The water heater is now in. The crew came over and all went well for a while. But the copper gremlins showed up and a job that should have been done at 4:30 dragged on until 7 )sound familiar?).
Do you know about a relatively new, wonderful little plumbing thing called a sharkbite or a gatorbite? They are for those of us born without the ever important solder gene (or for quick fixes in broken pipes). They can hook two pieces of copper pipe together without a torch!!!! They come in straight pieces, 90 elbows, Ts, and probably more! They come in copper and pvc. You can use them to convert from copper to pvc as they will hook to either. The guys mentioned these about 4:30 pm yesterday when the last solder would not take for the 2nd or 3rd time (I ended up at Lowes twice). They said, they are kind of expensive - $5 or 6 apiece. I said do the math on the cost of today in terms of labor, supplies etc. I will go for these fittings anytime!! For those emergency situations you may encounter, at our local Lowes at least they are right next to the copper pipes.
Of course, they have been in for 12 hours fine so I am assuming they will be good to go for 20 years...
Off to Kennywood Park to ride coasters, scream, and relax.
